About Dr. Sullivan
Dr Catherine Sullivan graduated from University College Dublin with honours in 2001. During her early years as a doctor in the Mater Hospital she quickly became interested in rheumatology and went on to commence specialist training in 2004. During her training Catherine was awarded Health Research Board Clinical Fellowship and travel grants totalling over €300,000.00 and completed a research programme investigating the use of stem cells in arthritis in NUI Galway and Harvard University Boston. She was awarded a PhD for this research in 2010 and her research has been presented at international conferences and published in peer reviewed medical journals. Catherine is a member of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and the Irish Society for Rheumatology and holds a certificate in Healthcare Management from UCD.
Catherine’s approach to rheumatology is patient centred. She focuses not only on ensuring the right diagnosis but assessing how illness affects each individual patient. Treatments decisions, either drug therapy or otherwise, are made in close consultation with each individual with Catherine providing expert guidance and advice. Written information is given on all medications along with advice on drug monitoring when necessary. As Catherine is dual trained in Rheumatology and General Medicine she understands how different medical conditions and medications interact.
Catherine is mother to three boisterous boys and enjoys outdoor exercise with the family.
